El cuidado, mantenimiento y esmero del cabello pasa por las manos de los hábiles artistas de esta profesión, cada vez más valorada en las sociedades modernas. Las peluquerías gozan del favor de personas de todas las edades, en busca de comodidad, limpieza y estilismo, desde el asesoramiento personal del profesional de las tijeras para el control del cabello y su natural evolución. El peluquero es, por extensión, uno de los personajes paralelos a nuestras vidas.

Este oficio ha contado tradicionalmente en nuestra ciudad con un gremio numeroso desde mucho tiempo atrás. Y destaca por antigüedad una saga compuesta por una familia al completo, desde abuelo hasta nieto en la actualidad, pasando por padre y tío. Nos referimos a la peluquería popular y comercialmente conocida como “Cinco años”, con cerca de 80 años de actividad profesional y una media cercana a los 5.000 servicios anuales, se dice pronto, para una clientela fiel heredada y fidelizada durante 3 generaciones de peluqueros, muy populares en Daimiel y desde luego los más veteranos en este oficio.

Siempre autónomos, fue Paco Rodríguez, almagreño casado con daimieleña, quien inició la saga de peluqueros conocida por “Cinco años”, en un local situado en la esquina del parterre con calle Colón, en unión a sus socios, Manolín, portero del Daimiel C.F. y Rafael el joyero. Remedios Rodríguez, hijo del fundador, permanece un tiempo con su padre, hasta hacerse cargo del negocio y trasladarse posteriormente a la actual dirección en las cercanías del Parterre, en C/ Gregorio Molinero 11, en el pasaje, permaneciendo en este lugar fiel a su trabajo hasta que falleció relativamente joven y recién jubilado. A partir de entonces entra en función la 3ª generación de “Cinco años”, si bien David Rodríguez ya trabajaba con su progenitor desde que se tituló en el oficio.

Son ya 22 años de experiencia cortando y tratando el pelo, adaptándose a modas y estilismos para complacer en sus gustos al cliente con quien entabla rápida conversación y trato cercano, con un horario tan flexible que este artista del culto al cabello se amolda a las circunstancias de su fiel clientela. En 14 m2, David desarrolla su oficio con diligencia y rapidez, casi siempre en compañía de “los parroquianos” que esperan su turno en agradable ambiente. Día tras día “Five years”, nombre que el artista adopta adaptándose a los tiempos modernos internacionalizados con el idioma inglés, adquiere total experiencia del oficio “mamado” en familia, con los utensilios propios de esta histórica profesión.

La navaja barbera o navaja para afeitar, el peine, tijeras y máquina para el corte  -a mano antiguamente, eléctricas hoy-, cepillo barbero, secador, suavizador de piel para suavizar navaja barbera, tijeras de entresacar, brocha para baño de barbas, etc., son utensilios con los que David de “Five years” se ha relacionado desde que tiene recuerdos. Y no piensa alejarse mucho de ellos, puesto que es profesional de un oficio familiar “asimilado en sangre de por vida”.
