Girones de luz, se cuelan entre las ristras de la cortina de chapas sorprendiendo a las diminutas motas de polvo que, flotando en el aire presas de la ingravidez se iluminan por un instante. Dentro del comedor, al amparo de los gruesos muros y de la penumbra, dos moscas vuelan lenta, pesadamente, interrumpiendo a su paso el haz de luz de manera fugaz. Son como todas las moscas, unas moscas estúpidas que se ignoran la mayor parte del tiempo hasta que en su errático vuelo coinciden, momento en el cual, se persiguen frenéticamente hasta que, de nuevo, súbitamente parecen olvidarse la una de la otra.

Del salón en el ángulo oscuro, de su dueño; ahora dormido y por el momento olvidado, silencioso y cubierto por un paño húmedo, veíase el botijo. Su rechoncha y blanca forma, replica de un Sanchopanza de barro, destaca en la semioscuridad de la habitación albergando en su interior la promesa del agua fresca con ese sutil sabor a anís que arrastrará la sequedad de los ronquidos de la siesta. En su ir y venir, una de las moscas se ha posado en la lengüeta del matamoscas. Sacando la trompilla que le sirve de lengua, parece afanarse en reconocer los restos de algún congénere que sucumbiera ante el hábil manejo del propietario de la máquina de matar dípteros. La otra mosca, tal vez atraída por algún resto del pisto del mediodía que nuestro durmiente se ha metido entre pecho y espalda, ha encontrado acomodo entre la cerrada barba, cerca de la comisura de la boca. El leve cosquilleo, sin llegar a interrumpir el sueño, provoca torpes manotazos que tratan de alcanzar el origen de la molestia que nuestra mosca, evita con rápidos regates aéreos, como la Richthofen* de las moscas, hasta que, en uno de ellos, topó con la otra mosca a la que llamaremos Roy Brown*. Salieron ambas como alma que lleva el diablo por la puerta que da al zaguán, y se perdieron camino del patio donde una explosión de luz y calor las hicieron plantarse a la sombra del lavadero; la una sobre un trozo de estropajo, y la otra sobre una pastilla de jabón de sosa. Definitivamente, estas moscas eran idiotas como todas las moscas.

Lentamente la tarde va pasando, por la ventana se cuela el olor espeso a tierra mojada que la tía Emilia va salpicando con una mano mientras con la otra sujeta el cubo. “Ris ras, ris ras” el corto escobón la hace doblarse acentuando la curvatura de su maltrecha espalda mientras barre.

Un lejano trueno que anuncia la llegada de una tormenta, termina por despertar al abuelo que con gestos lentos termina de quitarse los restos de migas de pan de la camisa. En la pila de la cocina se despereza dejando que el agua le moje el cuello y la cabeza. Pasada de peine, toque de fijador, y asomándose a la ventana que da al patio informa: -Me voy al Casino-

Al salir a la calle, de nuevo un estampido esta vez más fuerte, advierte que la tormenta se acerca desde Villarrubia. En las afueras, más allá del Azuer, dos gañanes al amparo de un remolque son testigos del chaparrón, al tiempo que el abuelo alcanza la entrada del bar España justo cuando los primeros goterones empiezan a mojar la acera de General Espartero.

 Con las manos en jarras, la tía Emilia refugiada bajo la cornisa del lavadero contempla la inutilidad de su riego manual. En la soledad del patio, de riguroso luto, recortada su menuda silueta contra la inmensidad de la pared encalada, parece la tía un pequeño borrón que descuidadamente alguien hiciera en el blanco libro de su vida.    Como si Dios se hubiese olvidado de escribir el resto del guion de la tía, dejándola anclada entre los quehaceres domésticos y la misa de siete para el resto de sus días.  Un par de metros más allá, dos moscas, una chupando jabón, y la otra, esparto se vigilan de reojo, mientras en San Pedro, las campanas llaman un día más a misa. La tía, sube pesadamente las escaleras, se descuelga el delantal, y como todos los días, cambia los trastos de barrer por los de rezar. En unos segundos cubre los escasos metros entre la casa y el templo, que se va tragando como un hormiguero el pequeño reguero de figuras negras; fieles algunos, sujetos a un guion que alguien tras un borrón olvidó escribir. Están a punto de dar las siete en el reloj de la plaza.

*Barón Richthofen conocido como “El Barón Rojo” fue un famosísimo piloto de cazas durante la Primera Guerra Mundial.

* Roy Brown fue el piloto canadiense que le derribó, aunque tal vez no el que le mató, hecho que modernas investigaciones atribuyen a un soldado de infantería australiano Jhon “Snowy” Evans, que desde tierra alcanzó a Richthofen atravesándole el torso.
