* El laúd se hizo muy popular en Europa a partir de la baja Edad Media y, hasta el siglo XVIII, podría considerarse que fue el instrumento rey, con una popularidad mayor incluso de la que goza hoy la guitarra española.
* El laúd es un instrumento elaborado de manera artesanal y con una adecuada selección de maderas, que posibilita un instrumento de calidad con un sonido tradicional.
* Dependiendo de la zona geográfica, la forma de los laúdes puede ser diferente: los occidentales poseen una caja de resonancia abombada; los chinos (también llamados pipa) se tallan de un solo bloque de madera; mientras que los que son de España tienen fondo plano y aros laterales.
